  • CPM 3V: Nitride finish, full tang construction, excellent edge retention and wear resistance, moderate corrosion resistance that requires occasional rust preventative oil.

  • Magnacut: Tumbled finish, stainless steel blade, cryogenically treated to 62 to 64 HRc, combines toughness, corrosion resistance, and edge retention.

  • 80CrV2: Black oxide finish, carbon steel, excellent toughness, easy to sharpen, good edge retention, and cost-effective. Requires rust preventative maintenance.

Experience The Hiker, a reliable survival knife that excels as a tool for everyday carry and long trails where elevation gain and total distance demand a perfect size fixed blade.

Carry Options

The Hiker’s Kydex sheath is built in-house from premium .060" material, vacuum-formed for precision, and CNC trimmed for exact tolerances. Black oxide hardware adds corrosion resistance, while adjustable retention ensures a consistent draw. For a traditional feel, a handcrafted leather sheath from Chattanooga Leatherworks is available, combining classic style with rugged durability.

The Hiker’s carry setup varies by blade type. Wharncliffe, Drop Point, and Tanto blades ride with the sharp edge facing backward and the grip aligned with body orientation. Pikal models are carried with the blade facing backward and the grip forward, designed to be used with the blade towards you with your thumb over the butt of the knife.

Blade Profiles

Tanto

The Tanto profile has a reinforced tip and strong geometry for piercing and heavy use. It suits tactical tasks and hard utility work where a thick blade and a sharp knife edge are priorities.

Drop Point

The Drop Point blends control and slicing performance. The lowered tip and generous cutting surface make it a versatile hiking knife for camp chores, field dressing, and everyday carry.

Wharncliffe

The Wharncliffe’s straight edge and curved tip create a precise cutting sweet spot. It excels at controlled cuts, trail tasks, and everyday utility where a consistent edge contact is valuable.

Pikal

The Pikal’s reverse-oriented design prioritizes control and rapid access in close quarters. It is favored for tactical applications and also serves well for fast utility cuts along the trail or tree line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose a fixed blade over a folding knife?

A full tang fixed blade, like The Hiker, offers greater strength and reliability than a pocket knife with a folding blade. With no hinge or moving parts, it will not loosen over time or fail under heavy use. This makes it superior for demanding tasks such as field dressing, survival situations, and camp chores where a sharp edge and dependable construction are essential.

What sheath options are available?

Choose precision Kydex with adjustable retention or a handcrafted leather sheath for a traditional feel. If you’re tackling a mile hike through the backcountry or facing bad weather on extended hunts, both options provide the secure carry and durability you need.

How do the clips mount?

Dauntless provided multiple belt and pocket clip attachment methods.  DCC and Ulticlips are mounted on the outside of the sheath so that the sheath is oriented inside the waistband or inside the pocket. Index Ultimate Belt Attachments are mounted on the inside of the sheath so they can be used on the outside of a belt.

What can The Hiker be used for?

The Hiker is versatile enough for both camp and trail. It handles carving and trimming small branches for fire prep, preparing food, and general camp chores. The Drop Point and Wharncliffe profiles are especially effective for field dressing game, while the Tanto and Pikal excel in tactical or survival situations. With its balance of size, strength, and utility, The Hiker has earned a reputation as one of the best backpacking knife options for outdoorsmen.

How do I maintain The Hiker?

Proper care depends on the steel you choose. For non-stainless options like CPM 3V or 80CrV2, keep the blade clean and dry, apply a light coat of oil, and use a rust preventative if the knife will be stored. For stainless steels like Magnacut and Damascus, regular cleaning with soap and water followed by thorough drying is usually enough. In all cases, maintain a sharp edge by touching up the blade with a sharpening stone and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture or corrosive environments.
