On the Bench: Dermot Dagger and Surgeon EDC Scalpel - Dauntless Manufacturing

On the Bench: Dermot Dagger and Surgeon EDC Scalpel

Target Launch: Early June 2025

We’re heading into spring with two highly anticipated blades moving through final development: the Dermot Dagger and the Surgeon EDC Scalpel. These two projects are radically different in form and function — but they both represent the same Dauntless focus on performance, innovation, and precision.

Let’s take a look at where things stand this week.

Dermot Dagger

Modern Performance Meets Historical Roots

The Dermot Dagger draws its inspiration from the WWII-era V-42, famously issued to the First Special Service Force. Our version is a modernized and more compact interpretation of that iconic design — with updated materials and a form factor that’s easier to carry and conceal.

This week, we’re finalizing material selection, including steel and handle combinations. So far, Magnacut and CPM 3V are confirmed, with Damascus and stainless San Mai under consideration for limited runs.

Dermot Dagger Specs:

  • Overall Length: 9.5"

  • Blade Length: 5"

  • Blade Style: Double-edged dagger

  • Steel Options: Magnacut, CPM 3V, and possibly Damascus or stainless San Mai

  • Handle Options: Contoured Micarta or G10 scales

  • Sheath: In development — multi-position options expected

  • Intended Use: Defensive / Heritage / Collector

Surgeon EDC Scalpel

Compact, Lightweight, and Precision-Driven

The Surgeon is a minimalist fixed blade designed for fine control and everyday utility. It’s slim, sharp, and built to handle the small, detailed work other blades struggle with. The current design is 7" overall with a 2.5" blade, making it compact enough to disappear into your EDC kit without sacrificing cutting ability.

Right now, we’re deep into sheath prototyping. Our leading design is a 3D-printed minimalist sheath made from PA12 nylon — tough, sleek, and incredibly lightweight.

Surgeon EDC Scalpel Specs:

  • Overall Length: 7"

  • Blade Length: 2.5"

  • Blade Style: Straight-back, scalpel-inspired

  • Steel Options: CPM 3V, Magnacut, AEB-L

  • Handle: Skeletonized

  • Sheath: Slim 3D-printed PA12 nylon prototype in testing

  • Intended Use: EDC / Medical kits / Precision tasks

Looking Ahead

We’re on track for an early June release for both models. Material decisions and sheath testing are the final pieces of the puzzle before we shift into full production. Expect more behind-the-scenes content, field tests, and final design reveals in the coming weeks.
