OEM Fixed Blade Production

A Design Is Not a Product

Many brands have an audience, a concept, and a clear market direction. What they don't have is a knife manufacturer — the infrastructure to turn that concept into a repeatable, launch-ready product.

Most OEM options force you to choose: overseas production, or domestic production with huge MOQs

We help brands launch serious fixed blades without having to build a knife shop.

What Dauntless Fills

Dauntless Manufacturing operates a purpose-built fixed blade production facility in central North Carolina. Blade machining, handle fabrication, Kydex sheath production, laser marking, assembly, and QC are all performed in-house. Heat treatment and specialty coatings are handled by trusted domestic partners.

The result is tighter control over quality, faster iteration, and a partner who can scale with your program — not just produce a prototype.

We are a domestic manufacturer, not a broker or import reseller. Every knife is made in our facility by our team.

What We Build Into the Program

Every OEM engagement is scoped to your product. Our standard program covers the full production chain from raw material to complete, branded knife ready for your shelves.

From Concept to Production

We accept client-provided design files at any stage — sketch, 2D CAD, 3D CAD, or a detailed description. Our process is structured around a clear approval gate before any production begins.

01

Design Review

We evaluate your concept and develop it into a production-ready design. This includes CAD work-up, 3D renderings, and 3D-printed form models as requested — enough to validate geometry and intent before any metal is cut.

02

DFM Refinement

Geometry, fixturing, cutter access, and finish strategy resolved together before any steel is cut.

03

Prototype / First Article (Optional — quoted separately)

A production-representative physical sample for customer review. An optional step — not all programs require one, and we'll help you decide.

04

Customer Approval

You sign off before we run volume. No surprises in the production batch.

05

Production Run

Batch-oriented production with controlled operations and consistent fixturing.

06

Assembly & Delivery

Final assembly, QC, packaging, and shipment — launch-ready product, not just parts.

We Work From What You Have

Sketch
Hand-drawn or digital. Enough to establish profile, geometry intent, and handle approach.
2D CAD
DXF, PDF with dimensions, or similar. Common starting point for clean profile work.
3D CAD
STEP, IGES, or native files. Fastest path to first article if geometry is well-resolved.
Description
Use case, blade geometry, handle preferences, intended market. We develop the concept from here.
Sample
An existing knife you want to use as a starting point or benchmark.

Good OEM work starts before chips are made.

Geometry affects fixturing, cutter access, cycle time, finishing, and cost. A design that works as a rendering may require significant rework to be manufacturable at volume.

Steel selection, thickness, grind strategy, hardware, handle material, and sheath architecture are resolved as a system — not as afterthoughts appended to a blade profile.

A great design still has to survive production.

Area
What We Evaluate
Blade Geometry
Profile complexity, grind type, plunge line, tip geometry, and fixturing implications
Handle
Material machinability, texture strategy, hardware selection, and assembly type
Steel
Grade selection relative to use case, heat treat considerations, and finishing behavior
Sheath
Kydex thickness, retention geometry, clip compatibility, and packaging fit

Material Selection Should Match the Mission

Steel, handle material, finish, and sheath color all influence performance, perceived value, lead time, and cost. We help you navigate the tradeoffs — not push you toward whatever spec reads most impressive on paper.

Options can be kept simple for an efficient first launch, or expanded into curated variants once demand is established.

Nearly all production is performed in-house. Heat treatment and specialty coatings are handled by vetted domestic partners

Blade Steel
Magnacut, Magnamax, 1095, 80CrV2, 5160, CPM-3V, D2, S35VN, and others — selected by use case and budget
Handle
G10, Micarta, Carbon Fiber, machined aluminum
Finish
Stonewash, satin, matte bead blast, forced patina, PVD/Cerakote where applicable
Sheath
Kydex in standard and custom colors; hardware and clip configuration to spec
Branding
Laser marking on blade or sheath; integrated through materials and color

The Sheath Is Not an Afterthought

Carry, retention, safety, clip compatibility, packaging, and customer experience all run through the sheath. In-house Kydex capability gives tighter control over fit, iteration speed, and production consistency.

We design the sheath at the same time as the knife — not after the fact.

"For a fixed blade, the sheath is part of the product."

Your Brand, Produced For You

Every production program we run is designed to feel like it belongs in your catalog — not like a stock knife with a logo dropped on at the end.

Customer branding is integrated through laser marking, material selection, sheath color, and hardware choice. We support both collaborative OEM programs and private label programs where we develop the concept alongside you.

Laser Marking
Logo, text, or artwork on blade or sheath
Materials
Handle and sheath color coordinated to brand palette
Hardware
Fastener finish, lanyard holes, clip configuration
NDA / IP
We can work under NDA; your intellectual property stays yours

The Run Matters as Much as the Sample

A production program is judged by the last unit in the batch, not the first article. Our flow is built around consistency across the run — not one-off craft variability. There is a place for one-off blades, production is not that place.

50
Unit Minimum

Low MOQ allows brands to launch with real product, gather market data, and prove demand before committing to large inventory.

FA
First Article Approval

Every program includes a customer sign-off checkpoint before volume production begins. No surprises in the batch.

US
Made in America

All production is in-house at our North Carolina facility. No offshore sub-contracting.

Who Should Consider Dauntless OEM
